Cafe participated in several senior events representing the community of seniors this year.
We began with the Susan B Gorman Foundation "Breast Cancer Awareness Expo" in March 2010. The seniors made crafts to sell at the expo and all proceeds were donated to the Susan B Gorman Foundation.
In May of 2010 CAFE supported the community of seniors by participating in the Senior Expo which highlighed the issue with diabeties. A representative from Divabetics was present and was MC of the "hat boxing" event. The seniors created and modeled hats that represented someone in their family touched by diabeties. Crafts were made and proceeds from the sale help support the senior center's future outings.
On December 11, 2010 CAFE is hosting a benefit for low-income seniors caught in Medicare's donut-hole. All proceeds from the benefit will go towards the purchase and distribution of community drug store gift cards in effort to defray the cost of prescription drug medication. The benefit will be held at "The Ark" Gospel Entertainment Center on Main Street in Manayunk. Along with the benefit we will be hosting a 777-Auction. Dinner for Two : 7-Meals @ 7-Restaurants for 7-days. Local restaurants are participating in the community by donating gift cards. All proceeds from the auction will be earmarked for the purchase of drug store gift cards too.
