Assistance with Housing

Personally researching, obtaining, and presenting affordable long-term care retirement living facilities and present them to the families of the senior and senior in order to form a collaborative effort in the decision making process. The seniors will have the ability to make an informed decision as to where they want to live. An older individual is more likely to maintain a positive self-concept, self-respect, and a strong sense of personhood among family and friends.

We want to be able to foster as much independence, autonomy, dignity, and self-respect as possible with the fewest restrictions, however this is not achieved in many situations because of poor quality standards, shortage of resources, and limited caregiver knowledge or appropriate care.  In situations where a major health crisis occurs without warning, family members may be forced to quickly search for an available space – whether or not it perfectly suit the needs of the older person.  The family may not have time to research availability and ratings of alternative homes.  Immediate medical needs, availability of bed space, and financial capacity may dictate the choice, rather than longer-term considerations.

We believe that this action takes away the seniors freedom of choice, independence and causes them to lose their desire to live and eventually fade from society.  Therefore:

We will assess the needs of the senior family member - personal, emotional, physical, financial - and determine how to fill those needs.

We will intervene in situations where roadblocks exist to properly give the senior options.  Or step in to improve current, less-than-satisfactory care.

We will provide options that take into account the family member or caregivers own existing commitments and obligations.  Working with those responsible for the older person, we will find the solution that best preserves his or her comfort and dignity.
